The Farmers Insurance Open Golf Tournament held at the incredibly gorgeous Torrey Pines Golf Course in north La Jolla is a Do Not Miss Event.
Today, 1/23/2013, is the Zurich Pro-Am held on both the North and South Courses. Tomorrow, prime time golf starts with such golf icons as our own Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson, Ricky Fowler, Stewart Cink, and last year’s winner, Brandt Snedeker. The line up of Players this year is very impressive. But, the course itself, with amazing views of the majestic Pacific Ocean and location in stunning La Jolla would be a lure for any golfer or golf enthusiast!

If you can’t make it this year the tournament will be broadcast Thursday and Friday from 12 till 4PM PST on the Golf Channel and 10 til 11:30AM Saturday and Sunday on the Golf Channel and noon till 3PM (or later) Saturday and Sunday on CBS. Again times are PST.
Events Other Than The Golf:
Golf Tournaments are also fun, social mega events now days and the Farmers Open is no exception. There are lots of events that will allow participants to mingle with other s who may or may not be total golf devotees. Remember, this is La Jolla called “Simply the best place to live” by the prestigious magazine so you know the best of Southern California Living will be presented here. Some of the “non-golf” activities are: The Beringer Wine Bar located between the 16th Tee Box and 17th Fairway, Farmers No 5 Chevrolet Race Car have your photo taken next to 12 time NASCAR winner Kasey Kahne’s car.
The Patriot’s Post is next to the 14th green and a comfy spot for active duty military and their dependents. San Diego is a Huge Military Town and we love our men and women who serve this country! Michelob Ultra Oasis will not only have Michelob and specialty beers but also flat screen TVs to watch the golf on. That will be just west of the 18th fairway. Be sure and stop by the Grey Goose Lounge behind the scenic 18th hole. Family Fun events are at Fan Fest along the 18th Fairway. Have your swing analyzed and learn about all the new things in golf at the Golf Fest across from Michelob Ultra’s 19th Hole.

Many people are surprised to find out Torrey Pines is a municipal course. They assume it is a prestigious, private golf club. Throughout it’s 55 year history it has consistently been ranked as one of the most popular courses to play. The history is really unusual, prior to becoming a golf course Torrey Pines was an Army Training Camp, called Camp Callan during World War II. The name comes from the rare Torrey Pine Tree which only grows in San Diego County and Santa Rosa Island.
Torrey Pines is a 36 hole course, the North and South Courses. Opening day was in 1957 and this magnificent course was the vision of William Bell, legendary golf course architect. He died in 1953 so did not actually get to see or play his fabulous creation. His son, William Bell Jr, oversaw the completion of the masterpiece. In 2001 the South Course was re-designed by another legendary golf course architect, Rees Jones. Those of us who live here really regard Torrey Pines as a local treasure!
